Have you ever seen a handbag line incorporate so many disparate styles? Although western shirts made an appearance in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s and many current handbags show western embellishments – not to mention the faux line dancing song “Achy Breaky Heart” – western fashion may be making an overall impression on the mainstream. Regardless of what you think of feminist blog Jezebel, they recently posted pictures of an upcoming western fashion spread from Vogue. Complete with horses and the outdoors, many of the models are clad in staid western gear that, combining some colors from western stones and standard cuts, looks like a hybrid between traditional western wear and high-fashion style.

louisvuittonbagsBut, although shades of coral stone and cowboy hats are seen on the models (and the horses), the collection of western fashion from Vogue appears to be a bit of a compromise. First off, much of the western fashion on the models isn’t necessarily cowgirl chic but, instead, horse-riding chic with some western embellishments. Many of these looks would be appropriate for spectators at a prep school polo match and not at a rodeo. I hope you will all be glad to know that we are back to some A-listers this week. First, we have the beautiful and always fabulous singer Rihanna out with a cute little baby blue Miss Martini clutch from Dolce and Gabbana. As always, Rihanna matches her bag flawlessly in a baby blue button up top and khaki skirt. Very tasteful!

Elsewhere, Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria was seen not once, not twice, but THREE times with an Adriana Castro Annie bag. That shows serious commitment to such a small bag like the Annie clutch. However, it does look quite fetching with a number of different outfits, so bring it everywhere!

On to the totes! So many celebs with huge tote-style bags! Primarily, I focused on Leighton Meester and Anna Paquin, of TV’s Gossip Girl and True Blood respectively. Leighton’s got herself a gigantic Celine Croc Luggage Bag on the set of her show. It’s definitely a bit out of place as just a standard bag, but would be excellent on an overnight to Paris or two! Anna’s got herself a Chloe Marcie Satchel, which isn’t quite in the tote range, but could definitely carry an outfit or two. She looks busy, so I’ll leave her alone – she just got married this past weekend, you know!

With all of the hoopla over celebrity arrests these past few months, it’s nice to see some celebs taking it easy after run-ins with the law. Maybe Lindsay Lohan, fresh out of jail and rehab, missed the memo, but I was talking about totes last week, right before she got released back onto Rodeo Drive. It’s cool though, because a whole bunch of celebrities were seen out recently with gigantic western-style handbags, so I have plenty to discuss!

It doesn’t even matter what kind of bag it is, even though it looks mysteriously like something that Lady Gaga was carrying around a few weeks ago. The real trouble in this picture are the sale tags on the bottom of Lindsay’s shoes. First, studs and now this! Faux pas galore!

Now for one of Hollywood’s goody two-shoes: Reese Witherspoon! Carrying a large Marni Balloon Bag, Reese was seen out shopping, looking rather angry at the paparazzi. Nonetheless, she looks great with the Marni, which is a little bit last season, but pulls it off flawlessly. What does she have in that massive bag? I always want to know!

Finally, we’ll take a look at Twilight starlet Nikki Reed and her humongous handbag from Rebecca Minkoff. It’s called the Morning After bag, which must be indicative of the pajamas that are being carried inside. I can only assume. However, the bag is phenomenal…with a gorgeous purple exterior, long straps and more than enough room for a few different outfits. Huge bags are here to stay people! So let’s start guessing what they’ve got inside!

This year, the MTV Video Music Awards, one of the edgiest and funniest awards shows every year, played out live with mixed results. The host this year was E! Television’s own late night star Chelsea Handler, who has her own show on the network Chelsea Lately. The usually hysterical Handler has received scathing reviews for her hosting abilities at the show, garnering a ton of negative attention. Nonetheless, the stars still showed up in full force at the gala, wearing some fancy couture and some not so hot clothing (Lady Gaga’s meat dress anyone?).

For instance, Easy Alois viton and Superbad starlet Emma Stone was seen at the show wearing a gorgeous tiny black dress made out of some kind of shiny plastic-y material like pleather. Thankfully this looks so much better than it can be described. Seriously look to the right at her picture! It looks good. More interesting is Emma’s fancy, fancy Bottega Veneta Half Knot Calf Clutch, which Miss Stone had in a surprising purple. It’s this kind of western handbag chic that makes young Hollywood look better than old Hollywood all of the time. Emma definitely nailed it at the VMAs for sure.

In the “Why is she still getting into events at all?” category, we have Full House star Candace Cameron using her new role on ABC Family’s Make It or Break It to get into an OK! Magazine event sponsored by vodka. Not very family friendly, but we can let it slide. The former child star was seen at the event with a Prada Antik gathered clutch in a pastel pinkish red hue. This is high fashion for someone who hasn’t really been on the scene in a while, so cheers to you D.J. Tanner for looking good and picking awesome clutches!

This week, we will be viewing western-style handbags on the arms of two respected TV actresses and one not-so-famous “actress.” The theme this week is mystery bags, even though I know what the first one is!

Blake Lively, the lovely star of TV’s outrageous Gossip Girl, gave what I consider to be the breakout performance of The Town, a movie blockbuster directed by Ben Affleck. More impressive than her performance is her ability to mix and match high class with affordable in this outfit (pictured at right). Wearing an expensive (and gorgeous) Pringle of Scotland Kasia Slouch Tote in gray and inexpensive shoes and clothing, Blake certainly looked her best at the airport, which is a feat for anyone!

Can Desperate Housewives be considered a mystery show? There certainly are elements of surprise and mystery strewn about, so I’ll say yes. Speaking of, Eva Longoria is treating us to a mystery with this beautiful silver handbag? The blogosphere is buzzing trying to determine which designer has graced the actress with this metal shaded bag. Can somebody come to the rescue and help us decipher the messages Eva is sending? Why is Audrina Patridge considered a celebrity? Does anyone know? That’s the real mystery in this blog post. The Hills can’t really count as a respected show, right? Whatever. Anyway, whatever you think of Audrina, she does has impeccable taste – or some very well-paid stylists. She was seen out the other day after her Dancing with the Stars rehearsal with a positively huge brown tote that was most likely carrying her dancing attire. This Linea Pelle Dylan Tote has been seen with Audrina numerous times and it seems like the wannabe dancer is a hige fan of Linea’s work. I would recommend that Linea stick with the designing – Audrina’s a maniac, a maniac on the floor!

True, python is one of this season’s hottest patterns and materials, but it seems that nearly every celebrity has a python handbag these days.
