This morning my guild chat is full of heated debate about whether the Zombie event is too PvP. Things are getting annoying on Garona, lots of dead quest givers in the lowbie zones. Blizzard broke the PvE contract: there is now non-consensual PvP, you have no choice but to fight. Frankly, I'm surprised.
I'm also delighted. This zombie event is super fun. (It helps that I'm not trying to run any lowbie quests, so the annoyance factor is minimal.) I love the way the plague was introduced without explanation, mirroring the Warcraft 3 lore. I like the game balance too, the way zombies lose health and are slow but are more powerful in numbers. And the creeping sense of dread, the idea the plague is getting worse, is a great lore run-up to Wrath of the Lich King.
I had fun early in the event trying to raise a zombie army on my own in Redridge. The balance is quite subtle: each lowbie NPC you attack spawns one guard that's just high enough level to be a challenge. Two guards or more overwhelm you.
Today I'm having more fun fighting back the zombies in Duskwood, a hero for the Argent Dawn. My only complaint is that it's too hard to avoid the infection when fighting zombies, even NPCs. I wish there was a cleansing potion or something I could carry with me.
The Scourge is bringing chaos to Azeroth. It's a bit annoying, but it's also kind of fun.
